Visitors and Suppliers:  Contractors must take steps to pretect the general public and supplier from adverse safety and health conditions that can occur on a construction site.

Visitors:  Post signs at project access points and parking areas that direct all visitors to the office location.  Only visitors with a valid reason to be onsite should be allowed entry.

  • All visitors should be required to sign in on a written visitor log.  All visitors should also log out when they depart the project. This log should be used for accountability purposes in the event of an emergency evacuation.
  • A safety orientation should be considered for all site visitors, particularly on large, complex, or high hazard operations.
  • All visitors that enter the project site should be provided with and properly wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (i.e. hardhat, safety glasses, safety work boots, retro-reflective vests, hearing protection) as specified by the jobsite requirements.
  • Visitors should not be allowed to roam or tour a project site, unless authorized and provided with a designated escort.
  • If there appears to be an unauthorized “visitor” who does not appear to belong on the project site, immediately inform a foreman or supervisor.
  • Post signs at the site perimeter to formally warn unauthorized visitors during and after work hours that trespassing is strictly prohibited.

Vendor Deliveries:  Access by vendors for delivering supplies should be through designated delivery access points and staging areas.  This should be specified at the time of purchase or when delivery arrangements are made.  All delivery drivers should follow the same requirements on the use of personal protective equipment.

Make sure the project site is accessible to emergency medical services (EMS) and that there is an effective emergency action plan in place.
