This project was originally planned to be an “on property” carriage house addition.  As time progressed and the project unfolded, we reached a point where the size of the design exceeded the zoning requirements of the local town.  The carriage house was then moved next door to an adjoining property and engineered with the ability of an approximate 2,000 square foot addition for a full residence.

Designed by Connecticut architect Steve Lloyd, this building includes nine foot tall doors with a finished garage area; to include sealed concrete floors, cabinetry, and cobblestone aprons.  Moving from the garaging area into the carriage house brings you into a lower floor entry area with basement access, a powder room, and a large double door coat closet.

Proceeding up the stairs brings you to a reading area where the laundry space is hidden behind closet doors.  Moving across the top floor will bring you into the living space of the carriage house, where hickory floors, cottage board ceilings and walls, and custom windows bring the modest building to an unparalleled level.  The sleeping area is partitioned off with a dividing wall from the sitting area, yet accessible from both sides of the room.  Custom kitchen cabinetry was built with the cottage board material on the ceiling and walls to maintain aesthetics.  Hand made white tile was used in the upstairs full bathroom including the counter of an additional cottage board custom vanity.

Interior design was provided by Susan Gregory of Gregory Interiors in Essex, CT.  Her collaboration with the owner includes highlights such as the spectacular wallpaper selections, furniture, sea glass knobs, coral sconces and chandeliers, and bamboo blinds.e of my favorite photos can be seen on our website.
