NECN: New England Dream House

Every Sunday at 10:30 am and 7:30 pm and every weekday at 3:00 pm the show “New England Dream House” airs about spectacular homes in New England.  After we were finished with our shoot yesterday, the producer told me that there are hundreds of people who write in to submit there home every week.  The home itself has to be a dream home from a standpoint of design and architecture, which there are many of out there.  The second criteria is an exceptional human interest story.

In my case, I remodeled a home here in Essex and built a carriage house with guest quarters for a local family.  After years of raising a family here in town, the children have grown up to have their own children and the family needed to expand the home.  Their story combined with the draw of Essex, CT itself provided just what the television show was looking for.

Photos of my work were submitted with a brief description of the project to NECN and to my surprise, they jumped on it.  They were enthralled with the architecture done by Steve Lloyd, the construction done by my company “Sapia Builders”, the interior design done by Susan Gregory of “Gregory Interiors” here in Essex, the charm of Essex itself, and the wonderful story about the family.  All of this put together really represented what they agreed was a dream home in a wonderful town with a wonderful family.

We filmed Friday, June 5th, here in Essex for 6 hours.  Myself, the owners, and Susan Gregory were all interviewed along with our work.

To our knowledge, it’s the first major television show to come to Essex to film a lifestyle segment on a home.  It’s truly a major accomplishment from the remodeling of the main house and the construction of a carriage house to such a detailed level that a major television network has picked it up, it represents a phenomenal success.
